Dr. Stanley Greenspan was the Founder and Chairman of the Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders (ICDL), founding member and past board president of Zero to Three: National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families and former director of the National Institute of Mental Health's Clinical Infant Development Program and Mental Health Study Center. As the world's foremost authority on clinical work with infants and young children with developmental and emotional problems, his work continues to guide parents, professionals and researchers all over the world. Parents and professionals have provided deeply moving testimonies of how he helped improve the lives of many children and families. Among Dr. Greenspan’s greatest wishes before he died was that no student be turned away from the ICDL Graduate School due to economic constraints. He urged us to do all we can to support those future leaders – the very lifeblood of the program – who are critical to bringing the promise and impact of his early-intervention strategies to promote social emotional developmental capacities and help all children, including those with autism and other developmental difficulties, reach their fullest potential. To honor Dr. Greenspan’s wish and to ensure his legacy, the Greenspan family created The Stanley I. Greenspan Memorial Scholarship Fund as a lasting resource in support of such students. All students accepted to the ICDL Graduate School are invited to apply each year. During the first two years, seven students have received partial scholarships to help them increase the number of courses they can take each trimester. The ICDL Graduate School has currently 86 enrolled students. All of them are professionals in their fields serving children and families in their communities. Many of them can only take the minimum number of courses each trimester due to financial constraints. A few students have requested a leave of absence due to the lack of funding to continue their studies.
